With the Profession of enchanting you can cast a spell on items, and depending on the recipe it will make them better for a short or long period of time. Though making new items is not possible.
The side profession to enchantmend should be herbology. Because herbs are the basis for all the recipes and this way you can collect your own resources. Another good side profession would be tailor because the very costly recipes don’t make a lot of money.
